Timeless Tranquility
Artful Elegance
This project aims to craft a luxurious residential show apartment that marries art and culture with refined living. The space will serve as a creative sanctuary for individuals who seek tranquillity and craftsmanship in their environment. The brief challenges the design to fuse minimalism with sophistication, creating a serene yet artistic atmosphere.
“Our design creates a delicate balance between art and tranquillity, blending cultural heritage with contemporary elegance to offer a living space where creativity and serenity coexist seamlessly.”

Echoes of Elegance and Heritage
Inspired by the architectural beauty of the iconic State Theatre, the design narrative draws on the rich cultural history of Hong Kong. Echoing the theatre’s mid-century charm, the design incorporates subtle art deco elements and elegant forms that pay homage to this legacy. The space serves as a reflection of history, reinterpreted for modern living, bridging the past and present through design.
Crafting a Dialogue Between Past and Present
The design process involved deep research into the architectural and cultural nuances of the 1950s, particularly the legacy of the State Theatre. The team explored traditional craftsmanship, experimenting with textures, materials, and techniques to honour this era. Local artisans were consulted to ensure authenticity, while custom joinery solutions brought a level of personalisation and artistic detail that merges historical motifs with contemporary needs.
Fluidity in Spatial Composition
The spatial strategy is built around fluidity, with seamless transitions between spaces designed to maximise light and function. Glass partitions allow for openness while maintaining visual connection, enhancing the sense of flow. Multifunctional spaces cater to both work and relaxation, while the bedrooms are designed with comfort and flexibility in mind. The overall composition creates a balanced, calming environment that suits modern lifestyles.
A Tapestry of Exotic Elegance
Materials reflect a blend of timelessness and subtle exoticism, drawing on the sophisticated charm of French-inspired aesthetics. Timber and terrazzo are paired with luxurious, textured textiles, while custom fabrics echo classic 1950s patterns with a contemporary twist. The use of translucent materials allows natural light to filter throughout the apartment, creating an ethereal, harmonious atmosphere. This mix of textures and colours enhances the sense of elegant yet understated luxury.
Soft Ambiance and Well-Being
Lighting plays a pivotal role, with soft, diffuse illumination drawing inspiration from the cinematic heritage of the State Theatre. Acoustic design ensures a peaceful, calm environment despite the urban context, while strategically placed greenery fosters a connection to nature. This holistic approach to lighting and environmental design ensures both visual and emotional well-being for those inhabiting the space.
Bridging History with Modernity
One of the most significant challenges was translating the rich heritage of the State Theatre into a modern residential space. Balancing historical reference points with the demands of contemporary functionality required careful consideration of every detail. The challenge lay in preserving the elegance of the past while ensuring the space meets the needs of today’s urban professionals. Through thoughtful design and attention to materials, this project achieves a respectful yet forward-thinking homage to Hong Kong’s architectural legacy.
The final design creates a seamless dialogue between art, history, and modern living, offering a harmonious space where culture and contemporary elegance meet.
